Shortly after 2200 Monday evening Station 50, Station 30, and Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the 10000 block of White Hill Trail for the reported structure fire. Units arrived on scene to find a chimney fire that was extinguished by the homeowner prior to units arriving on scene. Engine 51 checked for extension and overhauled the chimney before returning to service.

As we approach colder nights the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept would like to remind everyone to have their chimneys checked and cleaned prior to using them this winter.
