This past Monday night, SVFD members along with members from Chuckatuck (Station #9) held a training drill on "CALLING THE MAYDAY" with Firefighter Derek Brown as the lead instructor. The class covered on how to give a proper LUNAR (L- location, U- unit, N-name, A- assignment/air, R- resources) report and to communicate with your crew, RIT team or command by the CAN (C- conditions, A- actions, N- needs) report.
The students were placed into three squads with four members, and had to enter a structure and conduct a left or right hand search to locate a downed firefighter that was involved in a simulated wall collapse.
Once the crews located the downed firefighter they had to work together as a team and supply the downed firefighter with air from a RIT pack and then remove the downed firefighter from the structure working together as a team.
Students also went over the duties and tools needed for a RIT team. The training was a fantastic night between the two departments.
