Smithfield VA: At 0036 hrs Station 50 and 60 were dispatched for the motorcycle down with rider in the street. Initial reports had the driver lying in the roadway, and upon arrival of first due units, the operator of the motorcycle was walking around. Chief Stallings (501) arrived on scene and assumed command. Rescue 50, with a crew of 3 arrived shortly after and determined that there were no hazards associated with the motorcycle. Medics from Station 60 evaluated the patient and it was determined that the injuries sustained in the accident were cause to air lift the patient to a local trauma center. Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance was requested by command and landing zone 2 (Isle of Wight Rescue Squad Building) was to be set up. Engine 52 responded from Station 50, Rescue 50 was released by command to respond to assist setting up the landing zone. Engine 52 established L/Z command and ground contact with Nightingale.
